Kings Arms

Dinner was absolutely delicious, and we couldn't fault the food or the service. We got a much friendlier welcome when we came back for dinner, and slept really well. The road noise was surprisingly quiet. Our room was beautifully presented, very spacious, clean, and had everything we needed, plus a lovely view from the window. There were a couple of letdowns, though. The welcome on arrival felt rather cold, and breakfast was the same. The waitress did take our orders quickly. My husband enjoyed his full English and said it tasted great, but my Eggs Benedict was a shame: the muffins were rock solid and inedible, there was very little ham, and the poached eggs were extremely overcooked. We had a really lovely stay overall and would highly recommend it. Despite those few things, we'll certainly be back. A great find!

We stopped in at the last minute and were pleasantly surprised. The fish and chips at lunch were beautiful: chunky chips, crisp on the outside and fluffy inside, with perfect crispy batter and gorgeous fish. The service was fabulous, and the staff were very friendly. We'd highly recommend this place.

We couldn't fault the people, food, rooms, or general atmosphere. The gardens were lovely, with lights at night that made everything feel cosy. Breakfast was included, and we couldn't believe how much we paid for everything we got. It was more than worth the price. We booked on a whim without researching or checking reviews, which is unusual for us. We were heading to a wedding 3-4 hours from home, and this was the closest place to Houchins wedding venue. What a pleasant surprise. Thanks for a lovely stay. Our first B&B stay was outstanding and definitely set some standards!

I've stayed here four times, and the previous visits were always fantastic. This one was a huge disappointment, and I felt especially let down because I'd always chosen Kings Arms over anywhere else in the area. The room I was given was number 5, a standard double, even though my booking through Booking.com clearly said “DELUXE KING ROOM.” I paid £105 for that double, the same price I'd previously paid for the family room. My friend stayed in room 10 and paid £80 for the exact same room, so why was mine £25 more? The Deluxe King listing on Booking.com also shows pictures from the family room, which is false advertising. No one called before check-in to tell me I'd be put in a double. The family room used to be a major reason I stayed, but it's now a private room because the new management live there. It was really nice, and with it no longer available, I imagine bookings and profit have decreased. On top of being given a room that didn't match the price, the shower had no hot water. Water was pouring out from behind it, so the fault was obvious, but it hadn't been caught before anyone checked in. I couldn't use the bathroom facilities. At checkout, nobody even asked how my stay was, which was highly disappointing.
