I’ve stayed in apartments in several countries across three continents, and these folks were by far the worst I’ve dealt with. I booked four nights through booking.com, then had to cancel because of an unfortunate incident. The portal said the Stay Company would consider my refund request before accepting the cancellation. They rejected the refund and accepted the cancellation in one go. Then they booked another client into the same apartment and got paid twice for it. Booking.com contacted them several times and even waived its commission to encourage a refund, but the Stay Company still refused. The woman I spoke to by phone, Sara, was also very rude when I tried to explain what had happened. Another apartment I’d booked for the second half of the trip refunded me after finding a new client. The Stay Company kept my 231 pounds as free money, knowing there was nothing I could do. I wish someone had warned me about them, and hope this helps someone else avoid the same experience. Fraudulent, rude behaviour like this has no place in hospitality.

We slept very well and had everything we needed for a great stay. My best friend and I stayed at The Stay Company, in one of its beautiful Georgian buildings with modern conveniences. The apartment had thoughtful touches and was well equipped. Parking was great, and the central location made it easy to explore the City. Check-in and checkout were very efficient and fuss-free. Raza, the Operations Manager, was super helpful and even helped with my luggage. We ate at The Dining Room, a lovely local restaurant on the same road, and it was very good. I highly recommend staying here in Derby for work or pleasure.

The owners and staff clearly take pride in the place. There was a handwritten welcome card, coffee and biscuits presented nicely, and a handbook with the house rules, appliance manuals, nearby food and drink venues, and short descriptions of local attractions, including parks. When I emailed for a VAT invoice, it arrived within five minutes. I was in Derby for training and chose this place for four nights because the price was reasonable, the location suited me and parking was secure. I stayed in an outbuilding with a kitchen and living area downstairs, and the bedroom and bathroom upstairs. It was spotless and the internet was fast, with 80mbs download and upload speeds. I’ll stay here again when I’m back for training.

After a month here, I was sad to leave. It really felt like home. The staff were welcoming, and having an on-site reception made a big difference. On check-in, there was a welcome card in the apartment closed with their wax seal, which I loved. Housekeeping went above and beyond. It’s only a five-minute walk to Derby’s best restaurants, with a very good craft beer pub across the road. I can’t rave about the place enough, everything was lovely.

The apartments are bright, very clean and have comfortable beds, towels and some nice little extras. The kitchens have everything you need, and the staff are helpful, nothing is too much trouble. There’s lots of parking. Sainsbury's is a two-minute walk away and has an ATM, and the centre and shopping centre are very close. Can’t praise the place enough.
