Bell Hotel in Driffield

We loved all the charm here, from the friendly people and lovely food to the little details throughout the hotel. There was something new and interesting to spot at every turn, and the place is full of history. Our room was spotless, characterful and spacious. Dinner and cocktails were both a treat, and ending the day with games in the bar was perfect. Breakfast was just as good, and they even brought us a hash brown that wasn’t on the menu. I’d forgotten my toothbrush, but the staff found me a new one and some toothpaste. Thanks to everyone for looking after us!

This was a waste of money and a rubbish end to an otherwise fantastic week. The spa was the main reason we booked, but it closes at 5pm on weekends, and our check-in was delayed because housekeeping was short staffed, so we barely got to use it. Staff seemed overworked and there weren’t enough of them. Reception staff also had to cover the bar, leaving both areas unattended much of the time. Several things didn’t match what was stated: there was no bath in the room, no chocolate, and reception wasn’t open 24 hours. Breakfast cost extra, and we didn’t eat there because service was lacking. We were woken by banging and shouting when people couldn’t get through the locked outer doors with their key card. Their card didn’t work, and nobody was at reception.

We picked this place for the building’s character and I’d stay again. The room was roomy and had an interesting interior, though the floors creak and the heating is noisy. Parking was tight, but we managed fine. We were here for one night while travelling to a concert in Scarborough. Breakfast was okay, with a vegetarian option, but the continental choices were limited and there was no alternative milk.

The staff were absolutely fabulous and the food was really good. The Bell is a lovely little hotel in a handy location, though it could use a bit of TLC to bring it up to date. The spa facilities are good too. The pool was smaller than I expected, but the jacuzzi was excellent.
