The meal was delicious, and the dining room setting was lovely. The staff were pleasant and clearly worked hard. It’s a fabulous hotel in a lovely setting, reached by a lovely driveway, with plenty of parking. Check-in was easy, and the inside of hetland hall looks lovely with its fires and chandeliers. Our room had a great view. I only took a mark off because the bathroom tap leaked and made a noise like a seal when switched off. I highly recommend staying here and will probably return.

We were here for our daughter’s wedding at a nearby venue. The hotel looked very grand as we arrived, and we had a lovely dinner and enjoyed the outside seating area. Our first room looked straight at a wall, so we asked to move since we’d paid extra for a superior room. They moved us to the second floor, though the lift only goes up to the first. The new room was spacious and nicely decorated, with two small windows overlooking the car park and countryside. It was very dark inside, so we needed the lights on continuously, while the bathroom was bright.

We booked the Spring deal for dinner, bed and breakfast for an overnight stay, and also got an upgrade. The hotel delivered. The varied gluten-free menu deserves full marks, and my fish pie was delicious. Breakfast was plentiful, and the eggs benedict with quality gluten-free toast was excellent. They made eating gluten-free easy, and we’ll definitely be back. Thanks for the upgrade too.

My wife and I stayed Friday and Saturday night, the first weekend in May, and found it a really relaxing place for a break. The suite was beautiful and very clean, with a large bathroom, bubble jet bath, TV over the bath and a big shower. The room upgrade was well worth the little bit extra. There’s free parking for about 80 cars and several EV charging spaces. Set on the A75, this 19th-century country house sits among 18 acres of grounds, eight miles south of Dumfries. It’s also a popular wedding venue and has regular music tribute nights. The relaxed rooms have antique-style furniture, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and tea and coffee facilities. Some upgraded rooms have stylish decor and views of the Solway Firth, while others have elegant furnishings and four-poster beds. There’s a lounge with a fireplace, a pub-style cocktail bar, and outdoor tables and chairs where you can enjoy a cold cider in the sunshine.

The outdoor space is lovely on a fine day, and the hotel sits in a nice setting, with only a little road noise. The bedroom was fantastic, with a modern, supportive bed that had just the right firmness. There was a small issue with one course in the restaurant, but it was resolved to my satisfaction.
