Edinburgh Thistle Guest House

Room 3 was a lovely big family room, very modern for a B&B and spotlessly clean, with fresh towels and bedding. We only stayed one night with our two kids. There was a double bed and a single on either side. The bathroom was tiny, but it was ensuite and had a shower. We'll definitely come back. x

The place was dirty and the shower drain didn't clear the water, which made the bathroom feel disgusting. The room radiator didn't work, and the bathroom was small. The older man at reception treated us very badly and refused to store our luggage, even though the hotel policy allows it. Not recommended at all. Be careful, this was the worst place I've stayed.

There wasn't any staff around at checkout, and the supposed 24-hour phone line was switched off when I called to say I'd left my charger in the room. The place seemed completely unmanned. I arrived ten minutes late for check-in, which had a very narrow time window, and had to follow the door instructions and call for the key. It was the day the o2 network went down, the reason I was late, so I was lucky my phone had started working again. Otherwise I couldn't have got in. My room had no radiator and was freezing, especially in November. They gave me a small fan heater that wouldn't hold a steady temperature, so I had to keep turning it off and on during the night. Avoid this place like the plague.

The TV worked well and had plenty of channels, and they provided tea-making things, an iron, a hair dryer, and an electric heater. I wasn't expecting anything fancy, and old or dusty would've been fine. But the place was dirty and run down, with mold, hair on the sheets, and a brown smear on the bathroom walls. The bathroom door wouldn't shut, and I couldn't lock my room door. With the unsafe check-in procedure too, I wouldn't leave anything valuable there.
