Eliza House

We had a really enjoyable two-night stay at Eliza House. Our ground-floor twin room was large, quiet, and had high ceilings and a view of the gardens behind the building. Breakfast snacks were put out earlier than advised and made a handy quick bite. The location was great for the tram to and from the airport, Dean's Village for a morning walk, and the Princes Street Gardens, just a short walk away. One small thing to know: the single-bed duvets were quite narrow. They worked for my sister and me, though someone broader might find them too small.

I wouldn’t recommend staying here. The place was untidy and unclean: stained sheets, a bed frame damaged by moisture, dirty carpets, and housekeeping supplies and towels left on the hallway floor during our stay. For the price, I wouldn’t return. The staff were helpful and carried our bags up to the fourth floor, since there are only stairs. The area felt safe and pleasant, with easy access to transport and walking routes into both the Old and New Town.

For a room right by Haymarket station and the bus stops that won’t break the bank, this is a very good choice. The rooms have what you need and a bit of charm, as does the rest of the hotel. There’s no full breakfast, but the complimentary snacks and coffee do the job.

The beds were incredibly comfortable, the showers had good pressure, and the heaters warmed the large, high-ceilinged room in minutes. The rooms and bathrooms were immaculate, although some areas need TLC and the room furniture could be replaced. The staff were lovely, and the station is just a two-minute walk away, making it easy to get around Edinburgh. It’s a wonderfully quirky place in a gorgeous old building with lots of original features still intact.
