Regent House Hotel

For the price range, I found the hotel comfortable and conveniently located. You can reach it from Waverley Station on foot, or by tram followed by a short walk. On my first visit we were a small group with only small suitcases, so getting around was easy. With a larger group or big luggage, it could be much harder, since there’s no elevator and carrying heavy cases to the third floor is a challenge. The trip from the station is manageable, but feels more demanding when you're hauling large bags.

We had room 21 on the first floor, with three single beds and an ensuite. The beds were comfortable, and extra pillows and blankets were available on request. There was also an extra heater if needed, although the central heating was mostly enough for us. We had plenty of hot water and very good water pressure, and the room was cleaned to a high standard every day. The ensuite had enough space, and the communal basement toilet was useful and kept very clean. We'd definitely come back and recommend the hotel.

I don't usually complain, but I can't recommend this place. The rooms are reached by very unsafe stairs that aren't suitable for people with mobility issues. They were manageable for me, but not for my aunt. I called to check that the showers were low enough for her, since she has trouble lifting her legs over them. The person on the phone should have mentioned the stairs then. My aunt would struggle to get her luggage down, and thankfully this isn't where we're staying for the whole visit because we leave at different times. She has only seen the maids, who have been nice, and there's been no one at the desk. I specifically booked hotels instead of an Airbnb so there'd be someone at the desk if she needed help. She also offered to pay more for a lower-floor room, but still hasn't had a return call. Such a disappointment. I can't believe this is how it's run.

We arrived to find we'd been given the wrong keybox PIN. We called the 24-hour helpdesk 13 times before anyone picked up, and spent more than an hour clueless in the lobby waiting for help. When someone finally helped, they gave us a substitute code without apologizing. I wouldn't stay here again.
