We visited this venue for the first time with friends, and the location was great. The service was quick and very friendly, and most of the food was good. The fish and chips were much too overdone, though. We shared a bottle of New Zealand white wine, and I recognised it as one I buy at the local Aldi for £5.95. So I was really taken aback when the bill charged us £32 for it, over five times the price. Very disappointing, and I don’t think we’ll be back any time soon.

The outside appearance almost put us off, but inside it’s really nice. We’d seen solid reviews online and came for breakfast, which didn’t disappoint: classy presentation and quality ingredients. Cheers, Jade.

My friend and I stayed for a few nights in September. The staff and service were excellent, and the food was great. On our last night there was a live band, which was a very pleasant surprise. As Americans, we felt lucky to end up here, since it’s not a big town with lots of tourists. This hotel was one of the highlights of our trip to England.

I really enjoyed the whole weekend when I first came during the Folly festival in 2025. There was a great variety of entertainment and bands in the courtyards. I returned on New Year's Eve, but the pub area was packed with too many people and there was no room to dance. I had several G&Ts, and each one was different even though I specifically asked for one kind. It didn’t seem they’d run out. The evening would have been much more enjoyable in the ballroom, which would’ve been perfect for the entertainment. I can’t comment on the food or the hotel rooms.

Everything else was great, but the burger I ordered on January 2 tasted like meatloaf, and there was hardly any brie or cranberry in it. The apple strudel looked lovely, though its crust was rock hard.
