Drinks came within five minutes of sitting down, and the portions were a good size. But our three-course meal took 2 hours and 34 minutes, and we had to keep going to the bar to ask about the food. We felt ignored. The food was only warm, and the vegetables weren't properly cooked through.

Every Wednesday I join a craft group in a side area at the Black Bull in Folkestone. We sit together knitting and crocheting poppies for display in the town's war memorial area, and we also make things for the neonatal and cancer wards at our local hospital and for care homes. We're not a charity, but the pub team are generous with their help despite already being busy. They're consistently friendly and helpful, and they do charity work of their own too, which we support in turn. I don't stay for lunch, though some of our members do and seem to enjoy it. The clean, welcoming space and the people make our weekly get-togethers a lot better. Well done, team.

A proper English local, with cheap beer, a friendly crowd and a couple of good darts boards featuring integrated electrical Russ Bray. The DJ had a lively set that suited Friday night perfectly. 10/10, would recommend.

The food was good at my brother's 13th birthday, but the brownie for pudding was tiny, smaller than his pointer finger in both length and width. It was slimy too, and looked like someone had done a number 2 in his bowl.
