Westward Ho Hotel

We’ve stayed here three times before our annual Disneyland Paris trip because it’s so handy for Le Shuttle, and earlier visits were great. This time the start of our holiday was let down by the room’s strong cat urine smell. It was noticeable on the stairs and in the hallway, then even worse inside Room 6. We had booked the Family Room – Executive – Ensuite – Sea View, but didn’t get the room we’d had before. We slept with the window open, and all of us, including our 6-year-old, noticed the smell. We have a cat, so we know it well. We paid £125 for one night at the end of September, for two adults and three children. We arrived around 7-8pm and waited about 10 minutes after pressing the buzzer before someone let us in. A lovely young lad greeted us. When we said we’d be leaving around 5am for the train, he offered to leave breakfast outside our room, and in the morning there were bags ready for the kids. That was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated. It’s a shame, because this is usually a lovely little budget hotel in an ideal spot. We may have to stay somewhere else next year.

The location is great for Le Shuttle, and the rooms were large and clean. But we didn’t sleep well because the beds and pillows badly need replacing. There was limescale all over the shower taps and plug holes, and the shower curtain was dirty. A friendly young girl showed us in, but I found it unprofessional that she was talking to me and showing me the room while holding a vape. It was fit for purpose, but we won’t visit again.

We stayed overnight two weeks ago, with two ensuite double rooms and one family room. It was the cheapest hotel in the area, and reading the details before booking makes clear that the very cheapest budget room has a separate private bathroom. That’s why we didn’t choose it. All our rooms were spotless, with nice bedding and just like the photos. We were on the first floor. The sea views were lovely, and so was the rear room. We liked the little extras too, like mini shampoo and conditioner and a chocolate each. Booking was easy, and we spoke with the manager beforehand. We called 20 minutes before arriving to make sure someone would be there, and a helpful young man checked us in. It’s easy to find, within walking distance of the seafront, shops and cafes, and only a 10 minute drive from the Euro tunnel. It suited us perfectly for a night’s rest before travelling. The large family room can sleep six plus a baby without an extra supplement. It isn’t a five star hotel, and it’s not modern or sleek, but it met what we expected. It’s an old, large Victorian house with original features and character. I’d recommend it in a heartbeat. Thanks for a pleasant stay!

They didn’t refund us even though we did not stay there. We left because the entire building smelled strongly of cat urine.
