Hurtwood Hideout

The location is lovely, surrounded by countryside and trees, with walking and cycling spots, open space, and outdoor seating. It’s still close enough to catch a train to London or nearby towns. Staff were welcoming, and there’s a shared kitchen if you need it, with food and drinks already available. Our room was very clean, with fresh bedding, a cosy heater, and an extremely comfortable bed. The shower had great pressure and just the right temperature. I’d definitely recommend staying here.

The hostel’s in a fantastic spot, with bike trails right on the doorstep. Rooms are basic, but the host was incredibly helpful, friendly, and accommodating. The woman at the bar and reception was just as kind and welcoming. The range of food and drinks was pretty limited, and the cafe didn’t have long opening hours. Still, it’s an excellent, peaceful, idyllic location.

This was our second year bringing our DofE Silver Award participants here for their practice expedition. It’s an excellent place for navigation training, with very good camping facilities. The hostel was clean and well managed, and the leaders could stay there. There’s a small kitchen that works well for making meals and hot drinks for staff. The beds are a little short, as it was originally a 1930s hostel, but even our taller leaders found them comfortable. Josh was a lovely, excellent host. Thank you.

The café had tasty snacks when it was open, and we could use the well-stocked DIY kitchen whenever we wanted. My dog and I felt very at home here. The staff were kind and helpful, and the hostel was clean and thoughtfully set up. We’ll be back!
