Halfway House

We were charged for two sticky toffee puddings, but only one arrived, and there was ice cream for the child. We paid and left, and won’t be back. The food was mediocre at best: the beef was dry and tough, and the portions of meat looked like something from a children’s meal. We’d all ordered beef after being told there was no lamb, then overheard the waitress tell another table there was lamb left. Service was appalling from the beginning. It took ages to get menus. We asked twice about the extra gravy that was supposedly on its way. It finally came after another 10+ minutes, by which time we’d eaten most of our meals, and nobody apologized.

We went around 12:30pm on a Saturday, with the place under new owners, and were the only ones there. The bar staff were kind and friendly. My wife got steak and ale, while I chose scampi. The dishes were nicely presented and tasted great. I love a pub meal with real cooked chips, it makes all the difference. We’ll be back.

There were 23 of us for a family get-together celebrating two 18 years olds’ birthdays, and every order came out hot and together. The food was fantastic, and the staff were great from beginning to end. They made us feel welcome. Definitely recommend it, and we’ll be back. Thanks for having us! x

We went back for Sunday lunch and this time the food was very poor. The vegetables were either undercooked or overcooked, the roast potatoes were barely roasted and bland, and the cauliflower cheese didn’t taste of cheese. It felt like no care had gone into the dinner. Service was good, but in the end it’s the food that matters. Our first visit with some extended family had been really good, even though I hadn’t expected much. We all enjoyed it, and the service was a little slow at times but nothing to complain about. I’d said I’d definitely go again.
