We used to hire this hostel exclusively, but the price has more than doubled in the last 18 months. For our walking group, the cost per person would now be higher than staying in a hotel with ensuite rooms. It's still a hostel with bunk beds and a shared shower down the corridor, where everyone has to queue. I hope the old price comes back when they see that this won't attract many bookings.

I only stayed one night while passing through and got a great price for a bed in a six-bed dorm. The rooms and facilities were very clean, and the shower had good pressure and plenty of hot water. The staff were wonderful and friendly, and the breakfast they cooked was incredible. Those were easily the best parts of the stay.

The rooms are a good size, and the staff are friendly. Breakfast was pretty good, with a decent range of choices. The mattresses had a slight smell that left the room feeling unpleasantly musty. Each block has two toilets and two showers, which were decent. I also appreciated the bike storage and cleaning facilities.

At £2000 a night, you have to hire the whole hostel, so it doesn't feel like a youth hostel.

Most guests seemed to be hikers and sporty people visiting the Peak District National Park, so expect early nights. It's definitely not a party hostel. The rooms are clean, and the staff are friendly; you can also get good dinner and breakfast options there. There's a big kitchen with a microwave, furnace, and plenty of pots and pans for cooking your own food. Storage space for belongings in the rooms is pretty limited, which was annoying. The showers and toilets are clean, but there's no public sink for brushing your teeth, just the sink in your room.
