It was a quiet stay, even with the airport so close, and the hotel itself was perfectly fine. The terminal entrance is about a 5-10 minute walk away. One heads-up about the route: the pavement is uneven, which makes rolling a suitcase difficult, and there’s no shelter along the way. On a dark, rainy, cold morning, that walk can be miserable. Those details aren’t the hotel’s fault, but they’re useful to know.

We ended up at Hampton by Hilton Edinburgh Airport after an air traffic control outage led to Turkish Airlines staff going over their hours and our flight being cancelled. The airline put us up in nearby hotels while they arranged rerouting. We got £25 meal vouchers each, and really enjoyed the food here. Service was quick, and the staff were attentive and helpful. The hotel is just minutes from the terminal on foot, which makes it handy for an early flight or a late arrival. Our room was bright and quiet, with a comfortable bed, a powerful shower, and good soundproofing from the runway. The place felt modern, clean, calm, and well suited to a short stay. There’s a small bar and seating area, and you can order food at the bar and eat at one of the numbered tables nearby.

We were glad to have the free breakfast before heading out, and the options satisfied us. Getting a rental car the next morning was easy too. We could walk over to pick it up, then park temporarily while we collected our luggage and checked out. After flying in from the US, we wanted somewhere convenient to rest before going into the city, and this hotel worked well. For an airport hotel, it was a pleasant surprise. The room was pretty good overall, though the bathroom felt a little tight. For one night, it was just what we needed. I’d recommend it.

The staff were really thoughtful while I was stuck there for days because of the weather. I kept refusing room cleaning since I didn’t want to leave the room and figured I’d be checking out the next day anyway. After a few days, instead of asking about cleaning, they checked whether I needed more teabags. Breakfast was better than I expected from an airport hotel, and the 24/7 bar had nice food. The soft bed and pillows were comfortable, and there’s a machine for calling a taxi. A couple of things were uncomfortable in winter: the shower only went up to warm, not hot, and was too cold for me. The air con was capped at 24 C, so it wasn’t freezing, but I still felt cold.

The rooms were fine, and the hotel is in a very handy spot for getting to the airport. But dinner was a shambles. Our party of six had three rooms, and we ordered our meals separately, so we understood they might arrive at different times. Still, the waits were long enough that my husband and I had finished our mains before my sister and her husband had even received their starters. We asked four staff members what was happening, and none gave us an update. Graeme, who is on the management team, was one of them. After my brother-in-law spoke with him, Graeme went straight back behind the bar and showed no further interest. There was no apology or explanation for the delay. The food was average and overpriced, and the drinks weren’t cheap either. I know it’s an airport hotel, but £7.40 for a pint of Tenants is ridiculous. Check-in had been disappointing too. Graeme seemed disinterested and wasn’t very helpful. I only found out the breakfast times because a couple checking in beside me were helped by a staff member who seemed much more useful. When my sister got back to her room, she received a text asking if everything was OK and told Nadine about dinner. Nadine apologised and said we’d get a partial refund for the very poor service, and that we could discuss it further at checkout. She wasn’t working the next day, but another woman from the management team was helpful and apologetic, said she’d process the refund, and noted our room numbers. The hotel manager also spoke to someone in our party and apologised. We still haven’t received the refund. Given the experience, I doubt we’d stay again, which is a shame considering how convenient the location is.
