Strathburn Hotel Inverurie by Compass Hospitality

After a long, dangerous drive, we were snowed out of our home and needed somewhere to go. Strathburn Hotel was a lifesaver. Barry was exceptionally helpful and professional, which meant a lot after such a day. The room was clean and cosy, just what we needed, and the hotel is conveniently near the A96 and Inverurie. Excellent service and value.

We spent one night there, on a Sunday. The room was clean and warm, though the bathroom was a little dated. The staff were friendly and helpful when we arrived, and the young lad on reception served breakfast on Monday morning and was just as friendly and helpful. We recommend the scrambled eggs. Cheers 👍

The friendly staff and good location were the positives, and both people I spoke with were genuinely kind. They even gave us a discount after we complained. I feel bad for them, but people should know how poor the hygiene was. I saw dead insects inside the stairway light fixtures and an insect starting a cobweb outside another room. The place felt dated and unclean, and I wouldn't recommend staying unless it gets a serious clean. Our first room was very dusty, with marks all over the ceiling, a mouldy bathroom, no hot water, awful shower pressure and a smell. My partner had to arrange a local blow-dry to wash her hair. The carpet was filthy and dusty. We raised it with staff and got moved, but the second room was still dusty. Then we were moved to what I think was called a "superior deluxe" room. It was bigger, but even dustier and still unclean. There were cobwebs and mould in the bathroom, red marks and dust on the carpet, and dust on the underside of the bed. It was only less bad, not better than the first room. Breakfast was included and the help-yourself items were nice, but my mushrooms were cold, and I think there was a hair in my egg. I gave the hotel a chance partly because I'd seen many positive reviews, so I wanted to share our experience too.

The hotel is handy for the centre, and we had a very pleasant stay. The staff were attentive, helpful, friendly and happy to chat. As others have said, the decor is a little dated and could do with a refit, but that wouldn't stop us staying again.
