Lumely Fee Bunkhouse

We had a brilliant weekend celebrating my best mate's 50th, after booking the whole house. It was warm, clean and great for a party, with loads of space and comfort. The industrial-style cooker let us cook in large pans, and the bedrooms had two bunk beds each, plus clean, comfortable and spacious en-suites. The lounge had a huge sofa and an open fire that we lit. There was space outside to park four or five cars, and we decorated with candles on the table and fairy lights all over. We went to the local pub for a birthday meal one night, and the owners collected us in their minibus and brought us back afterward. The views from the house were superb. I found a walk that led to sizer castle, past fields of fruit trees and sheep. A great outdoor experience, and a lovely place for a weekend with family or friends.

There are good walks right nearby, and it’s easy to reach more further out. We were a group of 19 and had a great time. The place is a good size and well equipped, with a great location. There isn’t much for kids to do outside unless they’re allowed beyond the fenced area. We’d definitely return.

The views and quiet setting made us wish we’d booked more than two February nights. We were four families with nine children, and the place had atmospheric decor, comfy bunk beds and a great log burner. The kitchen’s a little tight, so cooking in shifts helps avoid bumping into each other. Or you can do what we did and order takeaway from the Wheatsheaf, which we also wanted to visit more often.

We had a brilliant time celebrating my friend’s 50th, with plenty of space for our group and even a dry room for wet gear. The house was clean, with fresh towels and bedding, and the pillows were the best I’ve ever had. Showers were great, and although there’s a log fire, the heating kept everything so warm we hardly needed it. There are lovely views and walks all around, plus lots of pots and pans for catering. We booked the whole house directly with the owners. The Wheatsheaf, where we booked, arranged a taxi to collect us and take us to the pub and back. Staff were really helpful. Kendal is about 10-15 minutes away if you want to go into town, and dogs are welcome too. Best place I’ve stayed in England in a while.
