Keswick is a great location, but the property felt too small for all 12 people. The kitchen, dining room, and lounge worked fine for a group of around eight, and the kitchen was well equipped. The bedrooms were small, and most of us found the beds uncomfortable. We also struggled to get the lounge and dining room warm enough. The ‘fulfilment’ room was just a box room with two armchairs and a TV screen.

You can set off for hikes to Skiddaw or Latrigg right from the front door, and Keswick is only a five-minute walk away. Excellent accommodation.

The guesthouse was clean and freshly decorated, with a contemporary, welcoming feel. I had a very comfortable single room and a spacious bathroom. Fiona and Ben were great hosts, and I enjoyed a good mix of healthy and hearty breakfast on both mornings. I’d booked for May but had to postpone because of Lockdown, so I was glad I could make it to Keswick later for two stunning days of walking. This family-run place was superb from booking through checkout. I’ll definitely be back. Thanks for a great couple of days.

I don’t usually leave reviews, but this hotel really deserves one. My husband and I arrived completely soaked after a day of heavy rain in the mountains, and the owner greeted us with a warm smile. The room was cosy, neat, and clean, with everything we needed. We had an amazing breakfast the next morning and felt so good there. Really recommended!

After our campsite cancelled at the last minute and we couldn’t find a cottage on short notice, we were lucky to speak with Ben about the B&B he runs with his wife. They found two double rooms for us. The house is tastefully done in a modern style that still suits the place, and you can tell thought went into the details. Ben and Fiona were so lovely and welcoming. The bed was perfect for me, really firm, and we slept great. The shower had good pressure and a steady temperature, and the room had everything we needed. Breakfast was amazing: I had the full English and was full for the rest of the day. The others enjoyed fresh fruit bowls, and the yoghurt, toast, and tea were all spot on. The price was very reasonable, and it felt like staying at a friend’s house. This is now tied as my favourite B&B in the UK. We’d normally stay in a central hotel when we’re in Keswick and not camping, but we’ll be coming back to the Squirrel Lodge instead. I just hope we can get a room, as I think it’ll book up heavily.
