Went for Sunday lunch. The staff were welcoming and the food was top class.

We decided to try this place for dinner tonight after it appeared in my Facebook feed, and I'm so glad we did. It's a short drive from our house, and a fifteen-minute trip out into the countryside is always nice. The pub looked lovely and the bar was quite full, with a good atmosphere. A very friendly lady served our drinks, then a friendly, helpful young woman looked after us in the restaurant. The starters arrived without much of a wait and looked and tasted fantastic. The mains were just as good, cooked really well and beautifully presented. The portions were generous without being too much, and the flavours were sensational. We'll definitely be back. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Kelly was a wonderful host, and I'd like to thank her. She and the staff were professional, polite, organised, welcoming and very friendly. My double room was clean, tastefully decorated and surprisingly spacious for a Grade 2 listed building from the 17th century. The rooms were excellent.

The beer and gin selection is excellent, and if you like cider, I'd recommend their cloudy Rhubarb. The bar has a good atmosphere and the interior is inviting, styled like a country pub. But the courtyard doesn't get the same care and could use a wipe before customers go out there. Attention to detail is poor. The food disappointed too. We ordered a veg burger with goat's cheese, beet and bean, and slaw. The patty was superb and the cheese was a nice touch, but the bun was horrible, dry and hard like stale bread. The fries were cooked well, but tasted of fish, so I can only assume they use the same oil as for the previous night's fish dishes. Prices aren't cheap: two burgers, a gin and a cider came to £33. At that price, I'd expected the food to be great. As a bar, the selection and atmosphere are good, but as a restaurant it falls short. I wish I could give more than three stars. With a little attention to the food, I think they could turn it around, and if they do, I'll come back.

The front-of-house ladies were attentive and did a great job, but the kitchen let them down. The steak dinner was badly cooked and full of sinew, and I couldn't tell what cut it was. It also took almost an hour to get a simple steak and chips. Kids at McDonald's could do better. Get a grip, this is how pubs close. Sorry to the women out front, the back room undid all your good work. S
