I asked to cancel and get a refund within minutes of paying, before using the room, but the manager refused. Booking.com initially showed a payment issue, yet the money was still taken from my card, so I was charged for accommodation that wasn't as described and below acceptable standards. Reception acknowledged the room was dirty and apologised, confirming it wasn't just my opinion. It was filthy on arrival. The bedding had visible marks, furniture was damaged, and the bed was broken, with torn fabric and exposed foam, a basic safety and hygiene issue. The flooring was damaged and dirty, the shower area had visible mould, and the room smelled strongly of cannabis. Under UK consumer law, accommodation must be safe, clean and fit for purpose, and this property didn't meet those basic requirements. I'd strongly advise others to avoid this hotel.
I contacted the hotel directly to request a refund and try to resolve things, but the issue still hasn't been resolved. This stay at the Villare Hotel Leicester was far below reasonable expectations, and I would strongly caution others before booking. Our first room smelled strongly of smoke, was visibly dirty, and had hairs in the bedding. We reported it and were moved to a room described as an upgrade, but that wasn't acceptable either. It was a little cleaner, yet the curtains didn't properly cover the windows and the room was extremely cold due to inadequate heating. Music blared intermittently through the night, and I could hear people outside our room until 2am. We couldn't lock the door from inside, so we put the little table in front of it because we were worried someone could walk in. I'm currently pregnant, which made spending the night in a freezing room with questionable hygiene especially concerning for my health and wellbeing. Guests should at least be able to expect a clean, hygienic room with adequate heating.
The staff were friendly, but the room seemed not to have been cleaned at all. There was used chewing gum and used mouth tape on the nightstand, banana peels in the bin, and very dirty walls. It smelled as if someone had been smoking in there for the past 20 years. It makes me think they either forgot to clean it or just don't prioritise cleaning. There was no security, since reception is on the third floor and anyone can come and go. I'd recommend paying an extra £10/20 for a better experience.
We booked a room on 20 January, and the service was extremely poor. On arrival there was no staff available, so we waited almost an hour before anyone helped us. The washroom taps were broken and didn't work properly, and it was very cold at night with no proper blankets provided. The room was in poor condition, making the stay uncomfortable and the service far below expectations.
The room stank of smoke, with stains on the bedsheets and other furniture. The staff weren't rude, but they weren't polite either, with no smiles or anything. I don't blame them, since I wouldn't want to smile if I worked in that godforsaken place. It's by far the worst place I've ever stayed. The hotel needs serious improvement, though the location is decent and close to the shopping centre.
