The Christmas decorations were sleek, traditional and beautiful, and the decor was well done. We had a really enjoyable meal, thank you, great job. The meat was well cooked and there was plenty of it. The vegetables were tasty, nicely seasoned and sauced, with none of them mushy or musty, and they didn’t need salt. There were lots of good vegetables, and extra gravy arrived without us asking. Everyone left full and happy. The service was attentive and competent without being intrusive. For everything we got, the price was very competitive. It was the best Sunday dinner out we’ve had in ages. X

Our room at Middle House Askrigg was incredibly clean and well decorated, and the two guys running the place were lovely. There was ample parking and walking routes nearby. We paid £140 for a standard double with breakfast, plus £25 for our dog. We also had dinner there: Pork Belly bites and ham hock terrine to start, then scampi and beef brisket, followed by a cheeseboard and apple crumble. The crumble was to die for. The total was £172, including a couple of rounds of drinks and a bottle of wine. It was a bit pricier, but worth the money. My only suggestion is that the pork belly bites could use a dipping sauce, like BBQ or sweet chilli. Just got back from a weekend stay, and I’d give it 5*. Thanks for a great stay, we’ll be back.

Breakfast was excellent, and we had a really nice evening meal too. The hotel was lovely, with a great bar, good beers and very attentive staff. We stayed Friday to Sunday. Definitely recommend it, and we’ll definitely be back.

The Middle House has a really good sunny garden, but the bar didn’t open until 16.00 hours, even for residents. It would have been nice to sit outside with a drink. Apart from that, the hosts were excellent and the staff superb. Our room was comfortable and very spacious, and the restaurant had a relaxed feel and a very good menu choice. Thanks for a great stay, we’ll definitely return.

We didn’t stay at the hotel, but stopped in for drinks and food at the bar. The staff were lovely and helpful, and it had a nice atmosphere. There was a great selection of local real ales, and the food was really good, especially the proper home-cooked chips, done to perfection.
