The Black Horse, Climping

Huge thanks to everyone at The Black Horse, Climping, especially Genevieve. We had a fabulous evening meal, with great service and exceptional food. I enjoyed every mouthful of each course we chose.

We hadn’t booked, so we were lucky they found us a table. After walking the dogs on the beach in the cold and rain, we came across this little gem by chance. It was warm and welcoming, and the food was so good I can’t compliment them enough. A memorable part of an otherwise cold, wet day. Thanks to the staff ❤️

The only reason I’m giving four stars is that my partner’s roast lamb was overcooked and tasteless. Our friends enjoyed their roast beef and vegetarian roast, though, and the prices were decent. I loved the mix of newer and traditional features in the place. The whitebait starter was generous and very tasty, and my fish pie was a big portion with plenty of tasty fish and sauce. I eat a lot, too! We’d come back.

There’s plenty of parking out back, and dogs are welcome throughout, which is a plus for us. We were made to feel very welcome when we arrived. It’s a lovely, unusual place, and we got there just as meal orders were being taken. You can sit down and be served, or find a spot by the bar and order there. I had the steak and ale pie with French fries, broccoli and gravy. Superb.
