Camden Apartments

There’s a coffee shop right across the street, and other local facilities are good too. The apartment was nice, clean and tidy, with all the basics. The hosts were easy to reach, and we even joked with them about the scam reviews. I’d stay again.

It’s cheap, but don’t count on a good night’s sleep. The other flats share a main entrance, and that door is noisy to close. Guests in another flat came back later than I did and made a lot of noise. Traffic was loud too, and around 1-4am about four police cars or ambulances went past with sirens blaring. I thought that was illegal, but it happened. People outside were drunk and shouting and screaming, not aggressively, just very loudly. Flat 1 is below street level, with its windows at pavement height, so the noise carries. The flat door lock didn’t feel very secure, though you can use the latch. Check that the outer door is fully shut too, as it was slightly open when I arrived. I stayed in January and the apartment temperature was nice. It was reasonably clean and had most things you need, but I had no hot water. I only tried the tap late, so I didn’t call to ask how to switch it on, though I’m sure I could have. It’s a bit confusing, but not a scam. There are three separate flats, so contact the host early for your door number and codes. He gave me an address different from Booking.com, but the property is at the junction of two roads, which made sense once I got there. I ended up taking a cold shower 🚿🥶.

The location is great, and for what we paid it was worth it. The apartment was clean, though the listing says two rooms and it felt more like one. The shower curtain was broken, and the shower water was boiling hot.

We spent much more than expected after having to take a taxi and pay for another hotel. Don’t book or deal with them at all! We arrived at 8:30pm, although Hotels.com said check-in was available from 3pm until midnight, and found the front door shut. The telephone number listed on Hotels.com was wrong, apparently just some random person’s number. We eventually noticed a sign advertising flats to let under a different business name. Calling the number on that sign finally put us in touch with the owner or manager, who said check-in ended at 8pm. We pointed out the different information on the Hotels.com page, but he didn’t care and was rude and dismissive. He offered no solution. This place uses different names on different platforms, along with fake contact numbers and incorrect information. It felt practically like a scam.
