The lack of heating and hot water meant we couldn’t stay or sleep in the room, so we booked a last-minute room at the Travelodge around the corner. After five hours, the room was still freezing, with no heating or hot water. When we arrived last weekend, there was a musty smell throughout the Hindes hotel, and our room smelled of stale cigarette smoke. The shower water was cold and the radiator wasn’t on. I asked for a heater, but the receptionist kept saying there should be one in the room, though there wasn’t, and said the heating was broken while they waited for someone to fix it. A couple of hours later I asked again. They said there was a heater behind the desk, but it was broken, then laughed and said, “it must be the one for your room.” They didn’t offer another one. The customer service was appalling. I emailed to complain and asked for a refund, but haven’t had a reply, apology or refund. Don’t waste your time here, just book the Travelodge. Avoid at all costs!

Those two days were hardly a positive experience. There was an unpleasant, strange smell as soon as I entered the room, and later that evening smoke started coming in, mixed with a strong weed smell. This place is advertised as non-smoking, but the fumes made it hard to breathe and caused severe coughing fits for my little son and me. It felt as if the ventilation was carrying it straight through our room. I hope we don’t have any health problems from it. All night, people shouted and slammed doors, and it sounded like horses galloping up and down the floor. They showed no consideration for anyone. I strongly wouldn’t recommend staying here, especially with children.

In central Harrow, this is a handy place to get your head down. The rooms are clean and bright, the price is reasonable, and the service is wonderfully friendly.

I stayed there for many months with my child. It was a very quiet, clean place, and the staff were caring and helpful.

It’s a very basic hotel, but given its central Harrow location, I can’t complain.
