Ibis Budget London Whitechapel

The room was small, but fine if you mainly need somewhere to sleep. We spent four nights here and found the transport very handy, with a metro station nearby and a bus stop right outside. At night the neighbourhood felt a bit shady, although we weren't bothered and felt safe overall. Our room was at the back, so road traffic wasn't audible. The mosque next door could be heard at prayer times, but it wasn't disturbing. The room felt a little cold despite running the air conditioning all the time. Bathroom and toilet were fine, and there was always hot water. We got one large towel, no separate hair towel, and reception can provide a hairdryer on request. The USB Type-A ports in the room were handy. Breakfast was the same each day: muesli, nuts, pastries, pancakes, and cold cuts. There were no fresh vegetables, just fruit like apples or mandarins. I'd recommend it for a short London stay if you want a reasonably priced place with a convenient location.

I'm not sure how this place has so many good reviews. We arrived at 11pm on a Monday, and check-in took ages because the man at the desk wouldn't look at us or speak to us. He was the rudest, most condescending staff member I've ever dealt with. The room itself was fine, though there was no kettle, which I expect from an ibis budget. Still, I don't know when we've started accepting such low standards from hotels. The sink and shower had loads of strange yellow stains. Breakfast was a joke for £9. Toast was the warmest thing available, no English breakfast, just boiled eggs that were cold and tasted like they'd been cooked in a batch the day before. No beans, bacon, or anything that made the price seem worthwhile. Instead there was cheese, turkey, a small yoghurt section, and carbs. I've never seen anything that bad, even by London standards. I can't stress this enough, pay a little more and go somewhere else.

I've stayed here twice, and both visits were great. It's a budget friendly hotel, so don't expect anything fancy, but the rooms are nice even if on the small side. The staff were really nice and helpful. The location is amazing, with the Underground nearby and a bus stop right outside. Tower Bridge is about a 15-minute walk away. If you're looking for budget friendly accommodation, this is a really good option.

I've stayed at ibis whitechapel several times and would book again next time. The location is ideal, with lots of places to eat just around the corner. The WiFi is reliable and good compared with some other hotels nearby, and the service is professional and responsive. Thanks to Viviane for quickly getting me a hairdryer on the morning I left.
