London Chigwell Prince Regent Hotel, BW Signature Collection

The room was next to an event space, and with such poor soundproofing I couldn’t get a proper night’s sleep. I asked twice to move, but each time I was told the hotel was full. The shower only gave scalding hot water, so it couldn’t be used. At first I was told maintenance wasn’t on site. A manager came to look but couldn’t fix it, then reluctantly let me use a shower in another room. That made it clear the hotel wasn’t actually full, as I’d been told. I was only allowed to use that shower, nothing else in the room. On arrival, the front-of-house staff were rude, unhelpful, and seemed disorganized. They even asked me to pay for my room again after I’d already settled the bill. Between the noise, faulty facilities, poor service, and misleading information about room availability, the stay was extremely disappointing. I left frustrated and wouldn’t stay again.

At an event here yesterday, some glasses had lip marks and the rest weren’t very clean. The cutlery was just as bad. The plates at the buffet were filthy, with fluff, little rocks, and other dirt on them. They looked like they’d been stored on the floor or in a dirty cupboard. The serving staff were good, but hotel management needs to make sure the utensils are clean. I dread to think how clean the kitchen tools were. Seeing guests served dirty plates made us feel sick and disrespected, and left me wondering what was happening behind the scenes. I’d never book an event here or attend another one.

The breakfast was a highlight, with lots of choice, fresh food, and attentive service. The grounds were beautifully kept and gave the hotel a calm feel, while still being convenient for getting into London. My room was clean, spacious, tidy, and comfortable, and the bed made for a great night’s sleep. The facilities were well maintained. Staff were welcoming and friendly, made check-in quick and easy, and were happy to help with requests, which made the stay feel personal. The hotel has a charming, elegant feel, and I had a lovely experience from start to finish. It’s good value for the service, comfort, and hospitality. I’d happily recommend it and stay again.

Jack, the manager, was a huge help to me and my friend after my company mistakenly booked us a double instead of twin beds. He sorted it out cheerfully and efficiently, and made us feel at ease. The hotel was easy to reach from the station, the bedroom was comfortable and had everything I needed, and there was a good quality breakfast buffet the next morning.
