Old Street is the nearest underground station, about a 10 minute walk away, and there are plenty of good restaurants and pubs nearby. The location itself is decent. The rooms, though, are small, hot, and badly designed. The air conditioning didn’t work, and the supplied fan was so loud I couldn’t sleep with it on. One bed was only a mattress on the floor. Busy revellers in the nearby streets made noise through the night, and with poor ventilation and an uncomfortable bed, I slept badly. There are steep charges that weren’t obvious, £5 a day for room cleaning and £10 for luggage storage. There’s also a cat in the apartment. He was nice, but the hallways smelled really unpleasant because of him. You get what you pay for.

The cats wandering inside were apparently there to keep the mice away. The place felt like a rabbit warren, and I was relieved to leave. I didn’t feel safe and worried about what might happen in a fire. The loft room for three barely had enough space for one person to be comfortable, and there was no privacy. It was filthy, with what looked like old blood on the back of the bathroom door. We were told checkout was earlier than the time on our receipt and would have to pay extra for every hour we stayed until that time. Common sense eventually prevailed, but the housekeeper still knocked early. They also wanted an exorbitant amount to store our luggage. I’ll never stay there again and strongly recommend finding somewhere else.

The staff were super friendly, and we liked the amenities. Our room was modern and clean, but cramped even with only three of us, so it might work for a short stay but not a comfortable longer one. At check-in, the receptionist said we’d been moved from a three-person room to a “bigger” four-bed room. We’d booked online months ahead at a great price, but I still don’t think the pictures showed the room accurately.

I booked a room early in the year. Once travel restrictions came in, I contacted the hotel to move the booking to a time when we could travel again. I didn’t ask to cancel because I was concerned about how many refunds they’d have to issue then. The manager told us the “hotel will still be open” in June and that they would charge the full room price whether or not we could travel. It left a bad taste, as it felt like the manager was trying to profit from a pandemic, and apparently I wasn’t the only one this happened to. I’d avoid the place in future.

We’d called ahead to say we were arriving, then got to the UK after a five-hour transit and reached the property at night. At check-in, they suddenly said our reservation had been cancelled and that the couple in front of us had been given priority because they paid more. If that was really the reason, I’d have happily paid extra for a bed that night. The receptionist tried to help, but there was nothing she could do. The manager on the phone was rude and unprofessional, and seemed to blame us for the cancellation. I’d give zero stars if I could. It was a disgrace to hospitality, and I hope they change. We called every hotel nearby, and the only one available cost five times as much. I was wary after reading all the negative reviews, but had hoped Millenium would be a bit better. Thanks, Millenium. You won’t see me again.
