Brook Hall

The biggest problems at Brook hall on upper brook street are inside the building. Heating is too restricted, the lighting can’t be adjusted, and rooms aren’t always checked properly before a new tenant moves in. The taps are poorly designed, with temperature controls so sensitive that they’ve caused burns. Most concerning, there are rats both outside and inside, so hygiene and pest control need urgent attention for residents to have a safe, clean environment. There are some real conveniences. It’s well placed for key locations, with a bus ride of about 15 minutes to the business school and around 25 minutes to arndale shopping center. There are also lots of restaurants, shops and social sports nearby, which makes it convenient for students and supports an enjoyable student lifestyle.

Good value for the money. The amenities are kept in good shape, and the staff are always friendly and helpful. There’s a nice range of places to eat and lots of shops nearby, which is handy for students on a budget.

I spent two years here, and staying for a second year was a big mistake. In the first year there was a lot of mould in my room and it wasn’t cleaned. My bike nearly got stolen, and reception didn’t help; two other bikes were stolen that same day. Prices went up the following year, but the service was still poor. Weekend staff were especially rude, though I won’t name them for privacy reasons. The electricity in my flat went out and they couldn’t fix it for a week. On day two, they told me to move my things to another flat. I made a complaint and never heard back. All my other flatmates left halfway through the year for accommodation with better facilities. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

The people at brook hall’s front desk are great. Really friendly, and the best part of the place.
