The High St location was handy for the Christmas Market, with nearby parking and shops within walking distance, though it did get noisy. Our room was spacious and comfortable, the bed especially so, and the bathroom was clean. Breakfast was fabulous, with quality ingredients and plenty to eat. The staff were friendly and helpful. We booked ahead.

The rooms were extremely basic, and dirt and mould around the windows and doors in the toilets and showers made a poor impression. The welcome didn’t help either. My wife and I were out for the whole night, which I’m thankful for. We left without breakfast because the options looked very basic, and the owner said it would cost £10 per person. I can’t upload the pictures and videos I took here, but I’ll try TripAdvisor. We wouldn’t stay again if we were in the area. I’d pay more for a Premier Inn.

We loved our three-night family visit, from the 11th to the 13th inclusive in August. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and staff friendly and accommodating. There was some noise, but for a town-centre spot in a very old building, we felt that was reflected in the price. The bar had a lovely atmosphere, and we even sat in with the ukulele group while they practised. The food was very good, especially breakfast. If you want a silent night, there are plenty of other places, but for good beer, food and a lively atmosphere, this is a great fit. You can always join in with the locals.

I didn’t stay overnight, just stopped for a few pints and dinner, but it was well worth it. The prices are amazing, the food is good quality and plentiful, and there are open fireplaces and characterful features that give the place a nice atmosphere. No Greene King stuff. I’m up and down the country for work, and this is one of the few places I’ve marked to come back to. I don’t know why it isn’t heaving.

We found a room at the last minute and booking was easy. The central location worked well, with no problem parking overnight. The family room, with a double and two single beds, was perfect for the four of us. Being above a pub meant a little noise, but we all slept fine.
