Set near Whatstandwell and right by the A6 Matlock Road, this is a beautiful spot for walks. The routes are easy enough for families of all ages, though the walk to Cromford can be lengthy if you choose to go that far.

We’d barely finished our two nights before booking a longer stay in May. There’s so much to explore, and it’s a real gem to return to after a day walking. The resident chickens are entertaining too. The property sits in stunning surroundings, and waking to wildlife and the rushing stream was idyllic. Steve and Elaine are friendly, knowledgeable hosts who make you feel very welcome.

The gardens were beautifully kept and the setting was really scenic. Our accommodation was lovely and very clean. There’s plenty to see and do nearby if you enjoy walking, and a shop is only a short drive away.

We had a wonderful anniversary here. Clean, modern and comfortable for a couple, it felt like having our own little house in the forest, surrounded by nature. A real hidden gem in Derbyshire, and we’d definitely like to return. For a walk out, it’s about 30 minutes along the canal to High Peak Junction, where you can get coffee or a sandwich. Go another 15 minutes and you’ll reach Cromford, with restaurants, coffee shops and pubs. Cromford Mills is a must to visit, it’s the world’s first water-powered cotton spinning mill.
