James and Angela are warm and welcoming, and they always go out of their way to make sure our stay is as good as it can be. My son and I return to James Place whenever we visit Bike Park Wales. We’ve usually stayed in Thje Rafters, and more recently in The Garden Room. Both have always been very clean and tidy. On our latest visit, they gave us half a dozen fresh eggs from the on-site chickens, a lovely touch. I can’t recommend it enough.

We stayed in the Blue room for the weekend and really liked it. The whole place smelled amazing, and the street was quiet. It’s high up, though, so getting back from the town centre can be quite a hike, especially after a big meal.

The room has a nice style, with lots of quirky touches, but some things are now tatty: wood panelling is coming off the walls, the bathroom mirror’s backing is peeling, and the shower sealant is mouldy. From the Rafters, the garden view isn’t very pretty, though the distant hills are nice. Privacy was a problem for us. The walls are very thin, so you can hear what other guests are doing. In our case, the couple next door were loudly intimate with their door open. The booking site listed this as 4*, which didn’t match our experience.

I had a hospital placement and stayed in a studio. It was clean and cosy, and the hosts were lovely. Check-in and check-out were both very easy. Definitely recommend 👍

I spent two nights there on my own in September and really enjoyed the property's distinctive character. I also had the chance to meet and chat with the owners. I’d definitely stay again.
