Sunley Hotel

There was only coffee at the hotel, and no food or breakfast on site, so you had to cross the road and eat with the students. The Waterside bar was good value and the portions were generous, though. The room was huge and well kept, and the hotel felt as if I was the only guest. It's in the grounds of Northampton University.

I was disappointed overall. My room was lovely, but far too hot, and the mattress was too hard. There was a ventilator, but I can't sleep with that running noise; the window only opened a little, so it didn't bring in enough fresh air. My room was near the bus stop, where buses waited with their motors idling, and that was very noisy. Breakfast was in another building, served buffet-style. The usual cooked English breakfast was there, but the vegan sausages had very tough skins, and the coffee was undrinkable.

Both of my stays here have been fantastic. The location is great, the rooms are clean and well maintained, and the staff are friendly. I'd definitely come back.

I booked in June 2024 for a three-night stay in July 2025, more than a year ahead. This month I was told the price would go up by over £650, with no warning or explanation. That's an outrageous increase after my reservation had been confirmed, and I find it completely unprofessional and unethical. Travelers should be able to rely on a confirmed rate. Avoid this place if you don't want last-minute surprises.
