The Falcon Hotel

The lounge feels homely, with lovely service and a selection of daily papers for guests. The food and drinks are excellent, and reception is there to help with any questions. I love this hotel. The staff are all friendly, helpful and welcoming, and the rooms have everything you need. They’re clean, comfortable and quiet. A lovely place to unwind, highly recommend.

Lily handled our booking and did a superb job, keeping us updated by email and taking care of our special requests. We spent two nights at The Falcon in Uppingham over Christmas, and every member of staff was superb from check-in to departure. Their first priority was clearly the guests, and they were always happy to help. On Christmas Eve, while we were at dinner, we found mince pies and two glasses of sherry in our room. The next evening there were two mugs with pictures of The Falcon and good wishes for 2026, plus Florentine biscuits and two glasses of port. Such a thoughtful touch. It was clear from hearing other guests on Christmas Day that many return for the festivities. One couple said it was their eighth year, and another their fourth year in a row. I can see the appeal. All the staff make an effort to talk with guests, which matters so much. I’d have no hesitation recommending The Falcon for a restful, relaxed Christmas break in 2026.

The food was delicious, and there were excellent choices at breakfast. We had a lovely, spacious room in this beautiful hotel, set in a historic town. The staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful, with fantastic service. It’s pet friendly too.

The supper at the new Fern restaurant was a highlight. The menu was short but interesting, with generous portions, thoughtful cooking and remarkably reasonable prices. We were also pleased there was no discretionary service charge on the bill. We were given a complimentary bottle of English wine to take home, perhaps as a promotion, but it was much appreciated. We stayed in an executive twin room on 3-4 February. The hotel seems to have had some much-needed refurbishment. On our two earlier visits it was convenient and reasonably priced, though a bit tired and shabby. This time the price was the same, but the room was immaculate and very comfortable. There were lots of nice touches: excellent pillows and beds, a brand-new bathroom with both a monsoon shower and a powerful conventional one, White Company soaps, a very hot towel rail and hot towels, two bath mats, and delicious homemade shortbread. Everything was spotless. A first-rate stay, and we’re looking forward to the next one.
