Oban Backpackers

The staff were so helpful, kind, and positive, and I felt comfortable and safe here. The communal space is cozy, with plenty of couches, a pool table, and clean areas. Coffee and tea are free at any hour, and the place stays warm at night. It would be nice if each bunk had its own curtain.

It may be very cheap, but the place should at least be clean. I was there for one night, and the whole building felt filthy. The toilets and showers were absolutely disgusting, and the thin mattress was covered in hair and stains when I stripped the bedding. The beds were uncomfortable too. When I arrived, staff and volunteers were sitting in the common area drinking. The next morning, a man was smoking on the stairs, and another was asleep and snoring in a chair downstairs, clearly after a night out. I don't understand all the good reviews calling it clean. Maybe I caught it on a bad day, but I doubt the whole place could be scrubbed clean easily. It was vile, and really unhygienic.

I loved my stay and will probably come back. The hostel has a homey, relaxed feel, especially nice if you're traveling solo like I was. It's centrally located, with lots to do in Oban and the islands. The staff are very helpful, welcoming, and kind. Cleanliness was totally fine, and the beds were good. I'd definitely recommend it.

Lynn made us feel welcome right away, so warm and friendly. The hostel is clean and well looked after, and the showers are especially spacious. There are large, sociable common areas too. Shout-out to the staff and the pool table. I had a great evening and would happily come back.
