We loved our stay and are already looking forward to coming back. My husband found this hotel for our night in Oban, and now I can’t imagine staying anywhere else when we visit. I honestly don’t understand the negative reviews. The other guests there that weekend seemed just as pleased as we were. We arrived an hour before check-in, and the young man at reception kindly let us in. Our immaculate double room on the second floor had a huge, comfortable bed, thick carpet, all the modern conveniences and a big wall-mounted TV. The bathroom was spotless, with lovely thick towels and the most powerful shower we’ve ever had. There’s no lift, so it might not suit someone with mobility problems, though it wasn’t an issue for us. Breakfast was outstanding and cooked to order, a refreshing change from the usual hotel buffet and greasy fry-up. There were cereals, fruit-topped yogurt pots, fruit juice, water, good thick bread to toast yourself, and pastries. I had brown toast with avocado and cherry tomatoes, drizzled with balsamic. My husband chose pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup. It was one of the nicest hotel breakfasts we’ve had. The staff were among the friendliest we’ve encountered in all our hotel stays. They seemed passionate about their work and couldn’t have been more helpful or welcoming.

Kenneth, the duty manager, was so friendly and clear, and went above and beyond when we were stranded after a ferry cancellation. We were vague and late, but he still made room for us and helped us out. Other nearby hotels just sent me to their websites when I asked for specific information. Ranald Hotel answered everything and more, and saved us from the hail. The room was lovely, clean and comfortable, and the complimentary shortbread biscuits were delicious. We had to leave early for the ferry, so missed the included breakfast. I almost hoped the ferry would be cancelled again so we could stay longer! We’ll be back for sure, and I totally recommend it.

The hotel is right in the centre, and we had fantastic service from the moment we arrived. My 50th birthday welcome included balloons and wine, a really nice touch. The room and the rest of the hotel were spotless, the food was lovely, and the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. I’ll definitely come back. Highly recommended.

A cracking little hotel for our three-night B&B stay. The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet, with everything we needed. Staff were so friendly and polite, and nothing was too much trouble. We had a lovely breakfast each morning, always served with a smile. I’d highly recommend it if you’re staying in Oban.

We had a great time staying with family in the Ranald apartments for two nights. The flat was nicely decorated and had everything we needed, with a very comfortable bed. Great location too. I’d definitely stay there again.
