The Tree Hotel at Iffley

The hotel was so outdated and dirty, and the staff seemed not to care. After seeing its condition, we were glad to leave and won't be back. We'd booked a double for one night, but on arrival were told someone had got our booking wrong and every double was taken, leaving only a single room. I wouldn't recommend it.

The bed was comfortable, but that was about the only good thing my mum and I found. The bathroom ceiling had mould, the toilet seat shifted sideways, and the kettle lid wouldn't close properly and nearly burned my hand. We were given a fan that didn't work properly, then another one. The curtains had awful stains and the windows were very old and outdated. The photos make this place look different from reality. Don't stay here.

The sheets had stains and lots of hairs on them, and there were stains on the bath and taps too. That made the stay uncomfortable. Breakfast was said to be complimentary from 08.00 to 11.00, but the kitchen had already closed at 10.00, so we had to check out hungry. It's also quite remote from the city centre attractions, about a 50 minute walk. On the plus side, the room was large and pretty, furnished in the hotel's style. The bar had a nice drink selection and a cosy interior, and staff were mostly friendly.

At about 7:30 I was woken by machinery starting up, with a loud hum and vibration in the room. It went on for about 39 minutes, after I'd only got back from a late job after 2am. Breakfast at 8:30 was too late for me. The room felt really dated and not clean. A little storage room by the bathroom smelled damp, and the bathroom and shower were in a bad state. The shower had low pressure and took ages to get going and warm. I had to collect my key because you can't check in late, and wish I'd seen the room then so I could have found somewhere else. The pictures don't look like the place in my opinion. The pub looked friendly when I went in to pick up the keys, with lots of locals, though I can't comment on it otherwise. The place generally needs a complete redo and update. Sadly, I can't recommend it.
