The Welcome Inn Hotel

We had a really nice stay, thanks to staff who made us feel welcome. Annie was great on our first day and evening, doing everything she could to make us comfortable. Matt from the night crew was also lovely and helped us in several ways. The cleaning team were friendly too, even knocking to ask whether we needed anything, including fresh towels. We didn't need them, but it was nice to be asked. There's no food for sale at the hotel, but there's a nice pub further up the road and a reasonably priced vending machine on site. I'd highly recommend staying here and will be back. It's up there with the Holiday Inn and far better than the hotels on Moor Gate Road. The pool and spa next door were a downside. A day pass cost £22.50 each, plus a locker fee, so £45 for the two of us. That's a rip-off when unlimited monthly use is £49. A monthly pass would only make sense for us if we used the facilities more than during this hotel stay. That isn't a fault of THE WELCOME INN, but the day-pass price is bonkers.

You get the basics for the basic price. The bed was comfortable and the room clean enough, with plenty of parking. But the room had only two plug sockets, neither near the bed, and it was noisy at night. The corridors smelled of weed, and the towels had a stale smell, as if they needed washing with different detergent, if any. I wasn't keen on the wooden spoons for making tea, and there was no security chain on the door. It looked like one had been broken off.

The rooms were lovely and the hotel was very clean. Staff were helpful with what we needed, and the hotel suited our purposes really well. We'll be returning.

We were in the area for an event and found the room a good price. The car park was large enough for our fairly big van. We still slept well and couldn't complain much for the cost. The main street sign was easy to miss at night because it wasn't lit and was hidden by trees. Staff were okay, though there wasn't much interaction. We were handed the keys and told the lift to the top floor wasn't working. We were lucky we could manage the stairs. The room was tidy and looked like a typical chain hotel room. A few things could've been better: the heating didn't work, there were no bedside lights, and the only lights were bright overhead ones, which aren't useful if one person wants to stay up. The bathroom fan was also fairly loud in the bedroom when the bathroom lights were on.
