The cottage was in very poor repair and didn’t resemble the photos on the booking sites. It was dirty inside, and the back decking was broken and filthy, with rubbish that hadn’t been taken out the week before. The smell and flies were awful. The back door was difficult to lock and usually wouldn’t lock at all. We left it unlocked, which made me feel unsafe and worried our belongings could be stolen. I contacted the owner on arrival day. She said someone would come the next day, but they arrived two days later, pulled out two weeds, and left. They said they knew the door wouldn’t lock and couldn’t get anyone to fix it until Thursday, the day we were leaving. I found older posts from about a year ago mentioning the same door problem, peeling wallpaper, a broken coat hanger, and dirt. The booking sites should review the property and remove it. It’s well below four stars, and I feel we were completely mis-sold. I’ll contact Trading Standards. I’ve attached pictures.

We had a lovely February half-term at Captains Cottage. It was quiet despite being in a residential area, and the house was clean, warm, and beautifully decorated, with everything we needed. South Bay is around a five-minute walk away and North Bay about fifteen minutes. There’s roadside parking opposite, and a permit was provided. You step straight out onto the road, so bear that in mind with small children or dogs. The double mattress is very firm, which is just down to preference, while the kids found the two single beds comfortable. We’d gladly return and recommend it for a clean, comfortable, quiet stay.
