Wortley Hall

We were here for a wedding, and Wortly Hall was a lovely venue for it. The ceremony room was beautiful, and afterwards guests could spread out onto the terrace and grounds. The weather was fantastic, so wandering around outside was a treat. If you're considering it for a wedding, I don't think you'll be disappointed. I believe they have different packages, though you'd need to check the website. Breakfast was excellent, and the staff we met were all friendly. Our room had high ceilings, a nice ensuite, a large bed, great views, a TV and kettle. The shower had good pressure, and it was nice to be able to open the old sash windows, though they were a little stiff. There were plenty of electrical sockets, but I didn't spot USB ports, so bring a charger. The room looked good at first, but the bed was uncomfortable. As I was only staying one night, I didn't raise it, while my sister, who was staying three nights, did. They moved her straight away without any fuss. There wasn't much bathroom storage, and the tiny wardrobe could have been replaced by wall hooks, as the room had enough space. The building has a stately first impression, though like many older places it could use some TLC and investment. Even with the small shortcomings, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

We spent a week in Swift Cottage with family and our dogs while attending a wedding. The location was excellent, with fantastic walks and scenery, and the wedding went well with good food. The cottage itself wasn't very clean, the garden was overgrown and damp, and the drain was blocked. The gardener came to cut the grass, and a very well-mannered maintenance man unblocked the drain and fixed two dining chairs. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it, despite the cleaning and other issues. I'd come back.

I often ride my bike up here just because I can. It's a lovely little spot on the edge of Barnsley, with incredible scenery and a great location. I haven't actually stayed here, but I imagine it would be a worthwhile experience.

I booked afternoon tea here as a Christmas treat for my mum, and she absolutely loved it. The food, service and setting were great. It was foggy, so we couldn't enjoy the grounds, but tea was the reason we came. Thanks so much to all the staff.
