New Inn Cottage

The Aga is the cottage's only cooking option, and in late June's hot weather it added even more heat, since it was always on at a low setting. We had no instructions for switching it off and no alternative such as a microwave. We eventually worked out how to turn it on and off with help from YouTube videos. We stayed at New Inn Cottage for nine days in late June 2025. Cardington is a gorgeous village, three miles from any A road along single-track roads, just right for a country setting, and well placed for Church Stretton. The pub is lovely, though its opening times vary, so check its schedule. The cottage itself is nice, the shower was very good, and there's a small fridge but no freezer. It wasn't properly prepared for our visit, which is odd for a place that seems to have been operating for some time. Seven light bulbs were out, there was pet hair, other hair and dust under the bed, and the bed supports were ajar and not holding up the centre. There were no remotes for either DVD player, so some functions like subtitles couldn't be accessed, and there were no Aga instructions. These are all things that should have been sorted before we arrived. The owner or Sykes Cottages should do a better job of consistent quality checks. For an expensive self-catering cottage, these were significant problems. They might have been fixed if we contacted the person named in the welcome book, but they should have been resolved before every guest arrived.
