We left before the second night and had to pay double for somewhere else, much farther from the concert venue, because I couldn't sleep in that house. The room photos show black mould in the bedroom and bathroom. The pillow and table were covered in crumbs, and the wardrobe and drawers were dirty, grubby and full of belongings, leaving no clean space for my things. There were no plugs. The room was very dated, the bedding looked worn, and being told it was his daughter's old bedroom didn't help. The kettle left limescale in my tea. There was a dead fly in the bathroom. We weren't allowed to use the bath and weren't given an explanation. The overhead shower didn't work, and the shower head moved around instead of staying still. Breakfast made my boyfriend and me feel ill and sick. It was just tomatoes, beans, mushrooms, hash browns and toast, despite my asking a month in advance about additions. I bought my own food from the shop. The host seemed surprised when I asked for vegan butter. I couldn't drink the orange juice, which I assume was from concentrate. The host was one of the worst men I've met. I felt unsafe, uncomfortable and really upset. When we arrived, he opened the door and stood there while we struggled with our heavy bags in the porch. He didn't tell us their names or invite us in, and we had to squeeze past him. After our long journey, I couldn't relax. He kept us sitting for ages to tick breakfast choices and make what felt like the most pointless conversation of my life. He insulted my taste in music because he didn't know the artists, and my choice to be vegan. He made misogynistic comments about liking my boyfriend simply because he was a man who ate meat, even though my boyfriend hadn't said anything. Later I was having a heated argument with my boyfriend. The owner knocked, came up to me angry and intimidating, and told us not to argue in his house but to do it in the street. He said not to speak while he was speaking and tried to teach me a lesson, saying I was in the wrong. I kept explaining that my boyfriend had started the argument and I couldn't leave because I was trying to get changed while he kept provoking me. The owner got in my face and was extremely rude, blamed me and got angry only at me, though it was none of his business. I asked to leave after that, but he said I wouldn't leave and would give him my money, even though we'd only just got to the room. He said they were keeping the room, as if he got any bookings. He can't reply to messages or answer calls.

Breakfast was ready bang on time when we asked for 7:30, and it was really tasty and perfectly cooked. Our room was cosy, the bed comfortable, and the house warm and peaceful. The home and B&B were lovely, extremely clean and tidy, and the owners were welcoming without over-hosting. After a very long day, they showed us straight to our room and left us to ourselves. They offered the downstairs lounge, but we were so tired we went straight to bed. Thanks for a lovely stay, we'll see you next year!

Gayton bed and breakfast is five minutes by train from Birmingham Airport, with a pub and sandwich shop close by for meals. Our room was large and bright, and the bed was comfy. The hosts were friendly. It's a great choice if you need to stay near the airport but don't want to be in Birmingham City or at the airport itself.

The location was just right for what we needed, close to the train station, and the room was spacious and well maintained. My friend and I enjoyed our one-night stay. The hosts were a lovely, friendly couple and gave very good service throughout. I'd absolutely recommend this place.

Breakfast was included and completely customisable, from a full English to individual items. If we didn't want beans or sausages, they made extra eggs or bacon instead. There was hot toast with preserves, fresh orange juice, and tea or coffee, and they kept checking that we had enough. The shared bathroom was warm, spotless and very spacious, with a shower and jet bath. Our room was spotless too, warm and lovely, with a comfortable bed, sink, tea and coffee facilities, biscuits, plenty of sockets and free WiFi. We got a warm, homely welcome and couldn't have wished for better hosts. They gave us advice on where to go and costs, and when it snowed they even helped clear the snow off our car. Fantastic, I'd happily stay again.
