Richmond House Hotel

The room itself was clean, fresh-smelling and had a small fridge and microwave, though it felt a bit cramped for a family room. The bed was broken, and I reported it. I’d booked two nights but left after just one because the smell throughout the building was unbearable. It reeked of urine, like a public men’s toilet but ten times worse, and it carried onto the other floors. It made me heave. The hotel shouldn’t be open to guests until that smell has been sorted.

For a last-minute, very cheap booking, this was a lovely surprise. The room was large, freshly decorated and had new carpets, with two chairs by the bay window. The bed was very comfortable, the bedding and towels were spotless, and the shower was properly hot. We rang the owner because there were no cups or spoons, and he came straight round with them and a free parking pass for the nearby street. That pass alone saved us £6. Lord Street and the town centre were only a two-minute walk away. We went to watch the Southport Swords at Churchtown and would happily stay here again.

Great location, free parking, and loads of tea and coffee. The room and bathroom were lovely and clean, with fresh bedding and towels. The fridge and microwave were a nice bonus. Can't fault it for the price, we'll be back.

Both staff members we met were warm and welcoming, and breakfast was a full English for just £5. Our room was roomy and clean, with plenty of tea and coffee and a comfy bed. The Richmond is handy for both the promenade and town. Glad we booked our one-night stay and would definitely come back.
