Discovery Bay

My family stayed in two apartments, and Natalie and Joe, the owners, were young, helpful, and made their stay that bit better. They’ll be back next year and plan to stay here again. The location is fantastic, right on St Ouen beach in a quiet spot, with lovely walks, dunes, bird reserves, and marshes close by. It’s on the well known five miles road, and there’s a restaurant in the building as well as others nearby. A car is useful, but the bus stop right outside makes it easy to get into town and travel elsewhere in Jersey. The apartments have some decor and all the essentials for cooking, including a microwave and fridge.

We had everything we needed in the apartment, and it worked perfectly for our week. The beach is right outside, with a cafe there too, and a beach bar just a short walk away. Our place was at the back, so the road noise came through when the window was open. Still, the great location makes up for that.

The view from apartment 9 was lovely, but the rest of this stay was deeply disappointing. The kitchen/living room/bedroom layout meant the two of us had to sleep in the living room, where mice ran around every night in the early hours. We barely slept, and there were droppings all over and around the kitchen. When we complained, the handyman said they knew about the mice and that it was an ongoing problem. The apology we got wasn’t sufficient, and we were emailed asking us not to share this with anyone. The fridge-freezer was broken, the shower didn’t work properly, and the bathroom sink had a broken plug. Under the sofa bed was dirty, the floor tiles were cracked in many places, and the lounge rug had seen better days. The wifi was terrible, and the cafe below could be noisy. We were also disappointed the owners didn’t remember our previous visit in July 2022, when we arrived to find a flooded bathroom.

A spacious apartment with a lovely view, right on the beach. This was our second stay and we’d recommend it. It’s a little out of the way, so a car would help, though there’s a bus route just outside. There are also plenty of restaurants within walking distance.
