The room was a mess: flying ants everywhere, a faulty air con unit flashing blue all night, and blood spots on the bed base. I arrived hungry at 8pm and was told they didn’t serve food, or breakfast either. At least the place was so bad I told my employers I’m done following their expenses guidance. One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in for years. Absolute bin fire, though it did give me a laugh.

Even arriving around 2am, I found check-in at Ashley Court Hotel easy, and the staff were helpful despite the late hour. My room was tidy, comfortable and well maintained. I had a really pleasant stay and would recommend it.

Breakfast was a letdown, with very few choices and only beans, bacon and tomatoes as hot food. There was no hot water either, and at 7.30 I could hear someone working in the room above me. Earlier, when I checked in at 7.30 and asked about the restaurant, staff said there wasn’t one, despite the website and sign above the lounge advertising a bar and restaurant. Apparently it was a breakfast restaurant. They weren’t very friendly or helpful and just told me to go into town for food. When I mentioned the water problem at reception, the guy said, “sorry I will sort it”. I won’t stay there again.

The staff were very friendly, and I would go back, though £357 for three nights without breakfast felt a little pricey. We had a nice deluxe room, but it could use some TLC. Disabled access was awkward: the double doors couldn’t both be opened safely because of the steps, so my husband had to get off his scooter while I maneuvered it around.

The room was comfortable, but I doubt I’d stay again. The bar was closed, with only a maybe about opening the following day. Breakfast was terrible, just bacon, beans and tomatoes or Wheatabix, and the bacon tasted bad. There are nicer hotels for better value. Definitely avoid.
