I spent 15 minutes here, then left, having paid £100 for a non-refundable room. On arrival, the gentleman didn’t seem pleased that I’d parked my pickup in the car park. When we said we were going to the pub, he told us we couldn’t drink too much. I’m in my 40s, by the way, not a teenager. He also seemed unhappy when we said we wouldn’t have breakfast in the morning. After that strange questioning, we finally got our keys and went to the room. It was nice enough, but his bedroom was right next door, as a big sign on the door made clear, and the bed was against the adjoining wall. He kept laying down rules and made us uncomfortable, so I booked the Golden Fleece for more money and left straight away. As we were leaving, all he asked was whether we were moving our car. I’d paid for the room, so I should have left it there. Very strange man.

Geoff made us feel very welcome and was accommodating throughout our wonderful break as a couple, 21st-23rd March. The historic property has a modern bathroom, a super king bed, lots of hot water and a great shower. Highly recommend.

Room 9 was clean and quite spacious, and we stayed for three days. There’s plenty to do nearby, and public transport to York is cheap and fast. Geoff is a very friendly host, lovely to meet. Breakfast was simple but outstanding, freshly made with high-quality food. The shower works, but as the room is upstairs, the water pressure isn’t strong. There was also a bit of black mould in the room’s corner. This B&B is 4.5*, one of the best we’ve stayed in. We don’t often leave a review. Greetings from the Netherlands.

Geoffrey gave us a very friendly welcome to this beautiful Georgian house. Our room was spacious, clean and fresh, with comfortable beds, lovely towels, toiletries, TV, tea and coffee, and a bath/shower. Parking is available by request. Breakfast was lovely, with a cooked option that happily catered for a vegetarian, along with cereal, fruit, toast, juice, tea and coffee. We’d recommend it and will visit again. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Love this beautiful B&B. Sara and Geoff are just the nicest, and breakfast was superb, all local produce. The enormous room was immaculately clean. It’s a fabulous place to park up, then walk or take the bus, and the location is great. It feels like stepping back in time while still having all the modern conveniences. I even got to meet the lovely Mr and Mrs Green. Life can’t get much better. 10/10, can’t wait to return. A must for anyone wanting the true Yorkshire experience!
