Morndyke Shepherds' Huts

There isn't much nearby beyond a petrol station and an Indian restaurant, though a 6-10 minute drive gets you to some lovely local pubs. The farm hosts were incredibly attentive and promptly took care of anything we needed. Morndyke Shepherd's Huts is a charming glamping site on a working farm, with five beautifully finished huts named after Beatrix Potter bunnies. They're in a dedicated area apart from the main farm, alongside a peaceful fishing lake and a rustic parrot sanctuary, whose proceeds go to it after expenses. There's plenty of parking. The communal hut, The Washroom, sells essentials and has laundry facilities and extra blankets. Huts come with bedding, towels and kitchenware. These traditional Shepherd’s huts/gypsy carts are compact but stylish, thoughtfully laid out and finished to a high standard, with a fairytale-meets-rustic-farm feel. Ours had a double bed, bunk bed, small kitchen with portable stoves and a shower bathroom. The beds were very comfortable, with good mattresses, plush pillows and soft, quality bedding. There are lovely details to spot, like sheep-shaped shutters, stained glass and little hidden sewn mice. Each hut has its own grassy space with a patio, BBQ and fire pit, facing a large, tidy shared lawn. Tea and coffee are supplied, but it may be worth bringing extra. Dogs are welcome, though bring a blanket if yours won't stay off the white hotel-quality bedding. In wet weather, take care to keep muddy paws clean. The Washroom has only basic essentials and spare blankets, not bedding. Despite the small size, our hut felt surprisingly roomy. The wood burner made it cosy and atmospheric, and the bathroom had proper running water and all the essentials.

The views were beautiful, and the place felt so calming and relaxing. I spent two nights in the Shepards hut, just what I needed. We also had the privilege of visiting the parrot sanctuary, which was amazing. The huts feel like a little piece of heaven.

We had a great weekend, and the huts are well located for exploring North Yorkshire. Inside, ours was nicely furnished with everything we'd need, including a wood-burning stove and a record player with a very eclectic set of records. The outdoor seating area looked great and felt private, but the weather stopped us making much use of it. We didn't see any other guests during our stay.

Such a peaceful, relaxing spot, and the huts are comfortable and equipped with what you need for an easy stay. We loved our time at Morndyke Shepherds huts and wished we could have stayed longer. I'd definitely return, maybe when the weather's cooler so we can light the stove inside the hut. 100% recommend a stay.
