Abbey Court Hotel

The breakfast was served well, but the food ran out soon after. The hotel and rooms need updating, and I had a strange, disappointing stay. The lift only worked on and off, which was a problem with my pram. Staff were generally okay, but I felt the owners would make excuses if we raised concerns. They told us to report every issue, yet weren’t approachable or seemed in denial. The doors were stiff and hard to lock. The bathroom flooded, and opening the old, heavy, stiff windows felt dangerous. When I asked about baby facilities, they said they didn’t have high chairs or cots, which frankly seems a health and safety concern. We were told by Mr Purewal that the advertised 'heated swimming pool' wasn’t switched on after 5 or 6 pm because of a health and safety risk. When I asked why it was advertised online and outside the hotel, another staff member said the sign was old. I’d ask the owners not to be offended by this review. Surely they know the hotel needs changes: carpeted bathroom floors that aren’t hygienic, leaking bathroom facilities, windows that are difficult to open, disability access and ramps, and signs for facilities they don’t provide. Please don’t act shocked when guests bring these things up. The owners are responsible for maintaining the hotel. I hope they take this as a polite notice to review it, because my stay wasn’t pleasant. People pay to stay, so please make sure you’re providing at least a satisfactory service before taking their money.

We had a small double room with an ensuite bath and shower, which worked well for our two night weekend break. The welcome was lovely, friendly and helpful. Bring your own toiletries and hairdryer. There’s no breakfast, though I should have noticed that before booking. The beach is a short walk away.

It’s in a quiet, leafy area, and there’s a lovely big garden. The hotel service was great, and our room was spacious and lovely, with an ensuite bathroom and shower. A few shops and pubs are nearby, and it’s a short walk to both the train station and the beach.

We had a lovely getaway with Urquhart travel. The staff and food were good, and Ken even opened the bar before its usual 5:30 time a couple of times. The entertainment on both nights was good too. Room 19 was clean, but our double room felt very small and dated, more like a single. The toilet had carpet, which was yuk, and the wallpaper by the ceiling was peeling and turning black, probably from condensation, with the extractor fan not working. The lift didn’t work during our whole stay. They did take our cases to and from the rooms when we arrived and left.
