We ate at the hotel both evenings and enjoyed the food, especially for the prices. It made a comfortable base for Stratford, the surrounding area, and nearby National Trust properties. We spent two nights here in February and liked the personal feel of this family-run place, where everyone seemed keen to make sure we were comfortable. A good choice if you want somewhere nice but not fancy.

The restaurant was a highlight, with lovely country-pub decor and excellent food at very reasonable prices. It was also refreshing to stay somewhere independently run by a family. The gardens are beautifully kept, and the old building sits in a lovely, convenient spot. Staff were warm and accommodating, and made us feel like regulars. Our suite was huge, clean, and had everything we needed, but the bed and pillows weren't very comfortable, so sleep was poor. The room could use a little TLC, and we noticed a slight drain smell in the bathroom. Given the rural setting and age of the building, that may be hard to solve. For the price and star rating, the drawbacks were manageable. We might stay again if we knew the bed in our room would suit us. With a few small improvements, Hockley House could be perfect.

The food in the bar and restaurant was welcoming and seemed freshly cooked to order, though the portions were far too generous for me. Breakfast was very good too, and made to order. All the staff were friendly and professional. My room was modern and comfortable, with a kettle, and the bathroom had fluffy towels, a roomy shower, and plenty of hot water. Catherine handled my calls and emails brilliantly before I arrived. Kate gave me just the right welcome at reception, then went to considerable trouble to sort out the TV remote. I loved the hotel's Christmas decorations, especially the thought and care behind them. You may have to arrive early to see them, but that attention seemed typical of the whole place. I couldn't have asked for a better stay, and I've already booked another.

The curry options were a hit with our group, and the bar meals were really good. Happy hour after work was a nice extra, even though the drinks weren't expensive to begin with. We arrived in the late afternoon and check-in was quick and easy. I stayed one night while travelling to build a stand at the NEC, about 15 minutes away, and paid a fraction of what the Crown Plaza or Hilton would have cost. The room was clean, warm, and comfortable, but there weren't any shower gels or shampoo, so bring your own. The car park is well lit, with planters you can pull right up to, which suited our vans with tools inside. Most rooms overlook the parking area, and it felt secure. I'd stay again for the next NEC build if the price is still good.

We hired the Garden Room at Hockley House for my Mom's 80th, and the team took wonderful care of us. They catered for 32 people, got everyone's meals out promptly, and were attentive throughout. We couldn't have picked a better place for Mom's special day. Thanks to the whole team for making her birthday so memorable.
