The Studio had more space than we expected from the photos and everything we needed for our two-week stay in June. The garden and enclosed woodland were lovely for a morning or evening stroll, even though we needed a car or bike to reach the nearby hiking trails. The place itself is beautiful and relaxing, and Anna en Henry were friendly, helpful hosts who made us feel at home. My wife and I both wished we didn’t have to leave, and we’re already looking forward to coming back. 🙂

Kelly Cottage is a real gem, with charming period rooms. Having a separate sitting room and bedrooms was great, and the little tea and coffee area with a fridge was a lovely touch. The welcome and reception were the best I’ve had in over 30 years of staying in B&Bs. Take a walk in the local woods too, as you might spot a red squirrel.

The Studio at Johnby Hall made a wonderfully peaceful base for a week away from everyday life, and a great place to explore the Lake District from. The holiday cottage sits in an idyllic setting with wildflower gardens, woodland and an orchard. It’s a working farm, with pigs and chickens wandering about, and one evening we saw a deer run through the grounds. Anna and Henry were warm, friendly and helpful, and provided everything we needed. One afternoon a chinook and a couple of training jets flew very low through the valley, giving us a close-up view.

We couldn’t have asked for better accommodation. They made us feel so welcome, and it was very convenient for meeting family, with us coming from Yorkshire and them from Devon.

The grounds are beautiful, and the interior feels like a trip through history. My wife, son, our border collie and I were made to feel very welcome, and even got to meet the owners’ friendly Labrador. Such a calm, peaceful place.
