The room was clean and comfortable, and the central Windermere location is ideal. My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay, with a warm welcome from owner Frank and, of course, Portia the dog. Still, I’m surprised to see so many five star reviews. The place feels dated and could use some attention. There wasn’t a cooked breakfast, which I’d expect from a B&B, and our being gluten-free led to some confusion. I’m not saying to avoid it, just go knowing what to expect.

This lovely flat is tucked just off Windermere’s main street, so it’s quiet and cozy, with everything needed for a comfortable stay. There are beautiful walks nearby. You can get to Bowness on foot in about 20 minutes, or the bus station is five minutes away. Buses are only £2 at the moment under the government scheme, until December 2024.

Portia, the cutest dog in all of Lake District, was a highlight, along with the lovely house, great owner and brilliant location. We had an excellent stay and felt very warmly welcomed. We’ll be back!

A great base, with spacious, comfortable and clean rooms. Shops and restaurants are close by, and it’s an easy walk to the promenade. There are regular open top buses for anyone who’d rather not walk or can’t.

Frank made our stay especially welcoming. He’s friendly and easy to talk to, and Portia the dog greeted us so warmly it made my day. He kindly gave us a lift to Bowness for our boat trip on Lake Windermere while he was heading out to shop for groceries in Kendal. The B&B is close to Windermere train station, so I’d recommend it if you’re not driving. Our room was neat and clean, with plenty of natural light and a tub in the bathroom. We’d picked it because it cost less than other hotels in the region while still having a high review rating and breakfast. The reasonable price made the friendliness and service all the more impressive.
