The room was clean, tidy, lovely and comfortable. We only found service when someone was around, though they were polite. My food looked nicely presented but was a bit bland, while my husband enjoyed his burger. It felt like we were the only guests, and nobody told us until check-in that breakfast wasn't available, which was really disappointing. At checkout there was no one to hand the key to or say goodbye to, so we left it in the drop box.

After getting soaked and muddy on a walk around the Woburn Abbey deer park, we wanted a Diet Coke or a cup of tea somewhere we wouldn't feel self-conscious about our windblown hair. Longs was just right, with comfy seats, a roaring log burner, the cheapest Diet Cokes I've ever found, and a friendly barmaid. It looks and feels like a proper local.

The roast was so good I nearly licked the plate clean, but my wife told me off 😋🤣. We weren't sure where to go for lunch, but the lovely looking building, quirky little dining room and appealing menu drew us in. The food was delicious, hearty and just like a perfect home cooked meal. Service was amazing too. They couldn't have been friendlier with everything we asked for.

After a country walk around the Woburn estate, I stopped in for a pint of Guinness before eating. The Guinness was perfect, and the trio of roast dinner was first class. The roast beef was divine, pink in the middle just as it should be. The staff were welcoming and accommodating. Well recommended if you're in the area.

Longs was a cosy, friendly place to stay overnight in Woburn last weekend, and incredible value. I'd happily recommend it. My one disappointment was missing the cooked breakfast advertised when I booked. I left around 9am on Sunday and there were no staff on duty, or any sign of food being cooked. Maybe I just picked a bad day, but never mind.
